The Bologna CNR Technology Park was born from the redevelopment of the former tobacco factory, designed by Pier Luigi Nervi in the 1950s. The complex of over 120 thousand square meters represents one of the greatest examples of industrial architecture of the twentieth century. The structural consolidation intervention of the brick and cement roofs involved the creation of plasters reinforced with CRM-type composite systems, i.e. fiberglass nets combined with M15 lime-based mortar. The Technology Park is now home to the Data Center of the European Center for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) and the European Supercomputer Leonardo. The Technology Park is the only one in the world, in its certification area, i.e. LEED v.4 BD&C: Data Center, to have obtained the maximum level of certification (Platinum) from USGBC recognized for the redevelopment of existing and functioning buildings.
