The restoration of the Trevi Fountain was funded with over 2 million euro by the design house Fendi and created under the scientific supervision of the Rome Superintendence of Cultural Heritage. The operations, which lasted 516 days, were conducted by ATI Trevintre (Cooperative CBC, A.R.A. snc, Tecnicon Ltd) and included the cleaning, restoration and consolidation of the precious materials as the famous fountain is made on. Kimia was chosen as a supplier of materials, in particular regarding the work of basins waterproofing.

The waterproofing took place in October 2015, one month before the inauguration (November 3, 2015). The material chosen was the osmotic waterproofing mortar Betonfix 300: for its ability to perfectly seal any porosity and cracks of the substrate, ensuring the perfect conservation of the marbles of the fountain. For the occasion, our laboratories have developed and chromatically characterized different versions of Betonfix 300, which were then carefully examined and picked by the technicians of the contractor and site supervisor.

The mortar was applied with Kimitech 350, glass fibre mesh with anti-alkali finishing, and mixed with the single-component synthetic resin Kimitech ELASTOFIX, in order to get greater mechanical strength, flexibility, adhesion and in order to increase frost and chemical agents resistance.
