The award was sponsored by the Fondazione per lo Sviluppo Sostenibile and Ecomondo - Rimini Fiera, in partnership with the Ministry of the Environment. It aims to promote best practices and the best techniques for Italian companies to achieve significant environmental results, with innovative initiatives, good spreading and positive economic and employment performance.

From the award to the Plan "Casa Italia"

The building that once housed the stables of the Rocca di Sant'Apollinare is the first in the world to be certified as "Leed Historical Building". A result of great prestige, rewarding the synergy between the worlds of research and some companies in Perugia.

The Scientific Director Prof. Franco Cotana, Professor of Physics in the Department of Industrial Technical Engineering UNIPG, emphasised:

"The nomination for the Award competition we presented last June - said prof. Cotana - two years after the study and application by researchers of the University and a group of Umbrian companies that have extensive experience in the field of restoration, static consolidation and energy efficiency of historic buildings. The Sant'Apollinare project is an exemplary synthesis of what has been studied and tested over the years. This award made us proud and it is a valuable recognition for universities, research and business world commitment, especially in Umbria, all together. "

A further recognition sprouts from the Director of the Award who declared that the project will be brought to the attention of the government for the project "Piano Italia"
Piano Italia is the strategic plan for the safety of the country announced by the Premier Renzi, after the earthquake that struck Amatrice and the centre of Italy last August 24.

Kimia solutions for seismic retrofitting of the building

Among the companies involved in the restoration and seismic retrofitting of the former stables of Sant'apollinare, an important role is played by Kimia who provided its own solutions for the structural consolidation of the building.

In particular, the project has provided the use of injections based on natural hydraulic slurry Limepor 100 for the pre-consolidation of the masonry and the use of  Kimisteel INOX reinforcing fabric for the hoops of the building, for the structural reinforcement of the slab and vault.
