Concrete renovation. Compressive strengths of Betonfix mortars compared

A general resume and infographic to know what Betonfix mortars are and their compressive strengths classes

For the repair of concrete structures it is necessary to use CE marked materials with specific properties. These are regulated by the UNI EN 1504 which is entitled: "Products and systems for concrete structures protection and repair - Definitions, requirements, quality control and conformity assessment".

Among the specified requirements one of the main concerns the compressive strength whose values determines four membership classes of mortars, thus, their field of application:

  • Class R1 and R2 (inferior mechanicals): non-structural use;
  • Class R3 and R4 (superior mechanicals): structural applications.

By considering the above classes, what is the compressive strength of our products? Let's explain it with an infographic on Betonfix mortars range, which includes mortars, binders and pourable products for structural and non-structural applications.

Kimia solutions range

As you can see from infographic, Betonfix R30, Betonfix RS and Betonfix RR are R1 and R2 classes. They are used for non-structural works, when a high mechanical strength is not needed. They are suitable for concrete or masonry building skim coatings, interior and exterior plasters.
Thanks to their thin granulometry, they are applied in millimettic layers after the restoration of degraded areas.

Among R3 and R4 class mortars, Kimia provides both thixotropic products (Betonfix RCA, Betonfix MONOLITE, Betonfix FB) and pourable mortars (Betonfix CR and Betonfix HCR).

Betonficx HCR is a brand new fibre reinforced three-component system, with very high mechanical strengths (compared to Betonfix CR). It can be used for beams and pillars consolidation and low-thinckness collaborative castings without welded mesh.

Betonfix MONOLITE is an R4 mortar, available in "R" or "N" versions, the letter indicates setting time: rapid (R) or normal (N). Both solutions covers with a single product 3 different functions: passivation, repair and final skim coating. Betonfix MONOLITE N is used for thicknesses up to 2 cm per layer.

Among fast setting mortars, beside MONOLITE R, we also have an R3 mortar: Betonfix TX.

Betonfix RCA and Betonfix FB are suitable for high-tickness cortical repair. Betonfix RCA is in R3 class while Betonfix FB is R4.
